(Un)Assumption. A Poststructuralist Interpretation of the Presented World

Justyna Budzińska

Abstract

The article analyzes the basic elements of poststructuralist and deconstructive approach to interpretation. The methodology proposed by such researchers as J. Derrida, J. Kristeva, and M. Foucault, stressing above all the concept of representation/re-presentation, is used for the analysis and interpretation of a specific sixteenth-century picture from the circle of Italian Mannerism. In order to emphasize the specificity of such an interpretation, references to (widely understood) traditional methods of interpretation of art works were used as a counterpoint.
