Self-Portrait with Clio. The Ego-histoire against the History of a Historian by Aaron Gurevich as a Source Text in the Biography of a Historian

Abstract

The aim of this article is to discuss the specifics of autobiographical sources, which are texts in the style of the ego-histoire, and the history of a historian by Aron Gurevich, inspired in a critical way by it. The author analyzes the latest debate of Polish historians of historiography about the model of biography of a scientist, presenting the main positions and inspirations. Using the dominant objectivist manner of describing the lives of historians as the background, the author raises the question about the place of source texts created by the historians themselves, intentionally, to leave a trail for future generations.
