Kontradykcja i poznanie. O polemice Stanisława Lema z Jerzym Kmitą (z Ubikiem w tle)

Abstract

Stanislaw Lem’s polemics with the phenomenological conception of the literary work and with structural linguistics dominated the reception of his work from the period of The Philosophy of Chance . The sophisticated discussion Lem had with Jerzy Kmita has been currently forgotten. This discussion concerned the status of contradictions in literary works. The course of the discussion revealed a fundamental issue, which is the cognitive function of science fiction. The results of the discussion influenced Lem’s interpretative practice, as it is clearly evident in his critical essays devoted to Philip K. Dick’s work.
