At the Roots of the Ribbentrop–Molotov Pact

Valentina Vedeneeva

Abstract

The article analyzes the ongoing discussion in the Russian historiography about the events in the eve of the Second World War. The return to this topic in connection with the 70th anniversary of the beginning of the War takes place in a certain context: we see the revival of mythologems about the Ribbentrop–Molotov Pact having been a forced measure, while it actually signified the division of Eastern Europe into spheres of influence between Hitler and Stalin.
