Regina libertas et plica polonica. Remarks about the Reception of the Polish Realities in France in the Margin of Gaspard de Tende’s Relation historique de Pologne

Abstract


It is in the margin of some interesting snippets of An Account of Poland by Gaspard de Tende that the reception of Polish realities in the France of that time. Two main suggestive figures are Regina libertas (the Queen of freedom) and plicapolonica (Polish plait). Creating the image of the Sarmatic world in France is shown on examples of de Tende’s works, The Encyclopedia of Diderot and d’Alembert, Montesquieu, Voltaire, Bernardin de Saint Pierre, and Mably.
