Abstrakt

My article refers to the text written by Czesław Robotycki “On the process of banality in ethnographical texts”, and the reflections in it form the starting point of the article. Using Anna Pałubicka’s ideas drawn from her book entitled Grammar of European Culture, I have tried to explain both the influence culture exerts on our experience and the fact we cannot just reject the culture. We can try to walk a mile in someone else’s shoes, but we cannot feel the reality as they felt it. Many authors talk about their own experience only and their own imagination of another culture. They fall prey of the illusion that a “magical connection” exists between them.
