Politiques de pardon et stratégies de réconciliation : ou en sont l’Ukraine et la Pologne

Olha Ostriitchouk

Abstrakt

After the fall of communism, it became possible to reconsider Ukrainian-Polish conflicting past in order to harmonize their relations and engage both countries in creating of a common future. Th is article examines their politics of reconciliation
and public apologies, since the first rapprochement under Kuchma and Kwasniewski who adopted a Joint Declaration in 1997. It focuses not only on what was done in this area but also on its international-domestic interactions and its reception by local groups. By observing people’s attitudes towards tragic events of the common past (such as Pawlokoma, Pawliwka, Huta Pieniacka, Jaworzno etc), we try to understand what is behind the practices of reconciliation, what is their significance for different
groups and limits of their efficiency.
